Alex Gordon is a solid side-scrolling platformer for all ages. Well… maybe not for all ages. Mostly for the younger ages… but that’s actually its strongest selling point.
Most platformer games are too tricky for young gamers. They depend too much on small characters making tricky and dexterous maneuvers to get through each level. Alex Gordon, however, deals with those issues by giving games large characters, forgiving controls, wide platforms and very slowly expanding gameplay elements.
Each new level for the first, well, for the first LOTS of levels will intro a single new gameplay element. This could be an enemy type, or maybe a new platform type, or a new way of getting through the level. But the fact that element is rolled out one at a time over an extended period, it makes it very gamer friendly. Even young gamers should be able to adjust to changes when they are presented at that pace.
Everything in the game is super large and super colorful. Huge coins to collect, giant gems, big enemies, wide platforms. It’s the kind of thing that just looks like its there to be played and conquered and enjoyed without much serious thought.
So, while Alex Gordon might not appeal to older gamers with its trite storyline and simple gameplay, younger gamers will find a TON of levels, fun graphics and easy-to-master gameplay.
