It’s not too common to get full-fledged real-time strategy gaming on coming out in anything other than a $50 AAA game format. That’s what makes BC Kings so refreshing. This is a full-featured and fun RTS game that will only run you $20.
Sure there are some things that are pretty laughable about the title, but all in all, it does the genre well and is a good time to play.
I’ll start with the bad part. BC Kings looks a little dated. It’s got a full 3D look and feel going on, but it looks more like the original Warcraft than it does like Wrath of the Lich King. That’s not such a big deal, though, because the game runs well on most any system and it certainly looks good enough to be playable. The other bad bit is the script, which is probably the most laughably bad English translation I’ve read in a long time.
On the positive side of things, you’ve got bunches of units, resource management, buildings, heroes, items, skills, shops, side-quests, sub-maps… the whole nine yards. They really went for everything and the kitchen sink with BC Kings, which means that it’s very likely that you’ll see something in there you like and the combination of all those things together likely means it’s something that you haven’t seen before.
So, for a full-featured, slightly awkward, but totally charming cheap RTS gaming experience, look no further.
