Hanna in a Choppa is a pretty brilliant little Flash game. It’s smooth, it’s quirky and it’s fun. It’s basically everything that a Flash game should be.
You take on the role of Hanna, and you are in a Choppa. Try and keep up people. Your goal on each level is to guide the Choppa to the flag and land by it. Simple. It’s very difficult to damage your shuttle and there are very few things that will “kill” you, so the game is easy to play. In fact, why don’t you play it right now?
For a game that it’s hard to fail in, how does Hanna maintain its playability? Well, the game’s quirk is a big help. It’s a game that plays like it wants to be played; like it needs you to have fun with it to fulfill its mission.
While the end goal is always to land by the flag, some levels have you using the Choppa’s winch to rescue sailors, or move obstacles or herd sheep. There are also a bunch of trophies to unlock. Some are based around specific objectives, but many deal with speed and precision. Finishing a level without touching any walls (tricky, let me tell you) gets you a perfect score and finishing a level under a mystery time-limit gets you a fast score. Getting all those trophies is pretty darn hard.
But, like I said, this is a game that is a joy to play because it’s a game that seems like it really wants you to play it… and that’s pretty much the heart of any good gameplay experience.
