Duels1Duels2

Duels is a game I’ve been playing for about five months now, and I’ve even kicked in some money to become a member, so I’ll start off by saying that clearly this is a game I enjoy, since I could be playing it for free. I’ll follow it up by saying that Duels is still going through some growing pains with new content rollouts and tweaks and gameplay balancing that can, at times, wipe out some of your hard work. And now… I’ll get down to the business of talking about the game.

There are lots of puzzle games on the web. It’s pretty much the bread and butter of the web gaming industry. Just pop around to major portals like Yahoo!, how many of those games are puzzlers? Well, you don’t have to go all the way over there (it can be a long walk), it’s a lot. Trust me, I’m a doctor.

Most puzzle games are fairly straightforward, though. You need to match some colored blocks… or you need to arrange some particular pieces to fit in a particular slot… or maybe you need to click on this one particular hidden item. And those games are good fun, don’t get me wrong.

But sometimes you want to get punched right in the brain.

Zombieland: Bonesnap Blvd.

So, I lied. This is really only in one part. But it covers two games that are both epic… and mini. So… you can see what I did there.

You Have to Burn the Rope

You Have to Burn the Rope (YHtBtR) is, as you can guess from my cleverly phrased title, pretty epic. To call it a transcendent piece of gaming might be selling it short. Classic, old-school pixel art. Smooth controls. Quirky character design. A soundtrack for the ages. A devilishly tricky puzzle to solve.

YHtBtR is gaming at its peak. Can I really say anything more? No. I dare not.

Just play.

Quest for the Crown

Quest for the Crown is another title that really slakes the gaming thirst. A RPG in the classic styling, Quest for the Crown carries on the noble lineage of titles like King’s Quest and the golden age of adventure gaming. There is adventure galore to be had here. Humor, drama, action, intrigue. It’s all there, and tied neatly around the simple quest for an ornate crown.

Like YHtBtR before it, I’m just not sure there’s too much more I can say about this game. It speaks for itself.

So, again, play here.

Strategy Guide for Quest for the Crown

Attak Attak is a pretty awesome fighting game. Reminiscent of the Matrix or perhaps your favorite comic book, your character is capable of performing powerful jumps, special attacks, and otherwise being a total badass. The destructible environment really adds to the enjoyment of this game, and it did a better job of making me feel like a superhuman than most of the AAA titles out there trying to accomplish the same. Play Attak!
